Wyman first took up the post in October 2023, becoming the organisation’s first externally appointed chair. He was initially appointed for a three-year term.

He has been responsible for steering governance reforms endorsed by the council, including revisions to how the board is structured and composed.

Commenting on Wyman’s reappointment, ICAEW president Derek Blair said: “Since Peter’s appointment as the first independent chair of ICAEW’s board in 2023, we have hugely benefitted from the expertise, insights and energy that he has bought to the role.

“We look forward to working with Peter over the next three-and-a-half years as ICAEW continues to implement its Strategy 2030 Direction.”

Shamshad Ali, Richard Nunn and Mary Phibbs will also remain on the board as non-executive directors from June 2026 for a second three-year term.

On his reappointment, Wyman said: “The current economic and geopolitical environment is putting significant pressure on business, and I am glad to be able to continue supporting ICAEW’s work to make sure the voice of business is heard in government and elsewhere.

“At the same time, the rapid advances in AI pose opportunities and challenges for everyone, and the board is focused on supporting our members in responding, while also focusing on future proofing the accountancy profession.”

Earlier this week, the ICAEW established an online hub to support finance professionals whose organisations are affected by the conflict in Iran.
