The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has set up an online hub to support finance professionals whose organisations are being affected by the conflict in Iran.

The initiative follows a survey of 497 ICAEW members conducted last month, which found that more than half had been affected, citing rising energy costs and supply chain disruption as the leading concerns.

In response, the ICAEW created a new web page that gathers its latest material on the impact of the conflict.

The Doing business in Middle East hub combines topical insights with practical resources on supply chain disruption and business continuity planning.

It opens with recent support, including the results of ICAEW research on business confidence in the UK and its latest analysis of economic conditions in the Middle East.

The hub also features a new page from the ICAEW’s Library Information Services team that outlines how conflicts affect specific sectors.

Alongside this, the Library team provides resources for organisations operating in overseas markets, which the ICAEW notes may be especially relevant in the current climate.

Users can also access an A–Z list of countries for which the ICAEW holds information including economic forecasts, guides to operating in each jurisdiction and summaries of local tax regimes.

The hub links to current UK Government advice for businesses, as well as broader guidance on resilience and operational risk.

This includes recent Insight articles on how to review supply chains, strengthen supplier relationships in difficult conditions, build resilience and protect manufacturing operations from volatility.

ICAEW Middle East, Africa and South Asia regional director Hanadi Khalife said: “Navigating the impacts of military action in Iran is a challenge for many organisations and ICAEW Chartered Accountants.

“We are committed to supporting our members with clear analysis and practical support wherever possible.”
