Cartwright’s appointment comes towards the end of his term as CEO of the ICAS, a post he has held since March 2018. In June last year, he signalled that he would step down as CEO in April 2026.
In a statement, ICAS said that, during his tenure, Cartwright “helped steer significant organisational modernisation, while also leading ICAS and its community through the complexities and pressures of the unprecedented Covid-19 years.”
Cartwright first qualified as a chartered accountant in 1989 with PwC. He spent the bulk of his career with the firm’s restructuring team.
From 2001 to 2016, he was partner and head of PwC’s Scottish Corporate Restructuring practice.
Alongside his practice work, Cartwright has held a number of leadership roles.
Between 2008 and 2014 he served on ICAS committee and council. He also chaired both the Insolvency Committee and the Technical Committee and contributed to several initiatives.
He went on to become executive director of Policy Leadership at ICAS in 2017.
“ICAS congratulates Bruce on his new appointment and thanks him for his many years of leadership and dedicated service to the organisation. ICAS looks forward to continuing our strong relationship with Audit Scotland,” the statement added.
Last month, ICAS introduced a new professional designation called Accounting and Business Professional (ABP) to address the demand for skills in accounting, finance and business.
