The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated its Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) Chapter (ICAN NIA Chapter) to enhance professional growth within the accountancy sector.

ICAN Diamond president Chief Davidson C.S. Alaribe presided over the event, which included the swearing-in of Dr. Emmanuel Otitolaiye, CFO of Linkage Assurance, as the pioneer chairman of the Chapter.  

This move is part of ICAN’s strategy to foster professional development and ensure members are well-equipped to navigate the evolving business landscape. 

The administration of the newly inaugurated ICAN NIA Chapter is set to promote a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.  

It aims to provide members with the necessary resources and support to excel, with a particular emphasis on membership drives, training, and events.

Nigerian Insurers Association DG/CEO Bola Odukale said: “The establishment of the ICAN NIA Chapter is a visionary step toward strengthening the ICAN network and creating a platform for professionls in the insurance industry to connect, innovate and excel.” 

Otitolaiye, a professional with multiple qualifications across accounting, taxation, insurance, and finance, will lead the Chapter. 

He said: “The birth of ICAN NIA Chapter is not an accident. We requested it and it has been granted. This is your Chapter. This is my Chapter. This is our Chapter. Together, let us embark on this journey to shape the future of the Chapter, inspire the next generation of accountants, and continue to build a legacy that we can all be proud of.” 

Otitolaiye’s academic credentials including a BSc in Accounting from the University of Lagos, an MSc in Accounting from Babcock University, and a PhD in Accounting also from Babcock University, among others. 

He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, as well as an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Insurance Brokers. 

In December 2024, ICAN outlined its 2025 objectives, which include supporting digital transformation, enhancing service quality, and fostering better networking among its members.
