KPMG has appointed Adrian Stone as its new head of audit in the UK, having been its interim head since November 2015.

Stone joined the Sheffield office of KPMG in 1984 and has been an audit partner since 1997.

He takes over from Tony Cates, who now leads the firm’s international markets and government practice.

Previously, Stone headed KPMG’s audits in the north of England and Scotland. He has been chief operating officer for the UK audit practice, and head of internal audit and head of KPMG’s department of professional practice.

KPMG in the UK total revenues grew by 2.6% to £1,958m (US$2,817m) in FY15, of which £197m comes from audit.

"Audit faces a time of huge change and opportunity as wide ranging regulatory reforms take effect prompting unprecedented levels of tendering activity, and increasing use of data and analytics transforms the audit process," Stone said.

"A focus on quality and on harnessing new technology in our audits has helped us to grow our market share and I firmly believe that KPMG’s audit practice is well placed to continue its success," Stone concluded.
