Caine to play Tweedie in financial crisis film

Michael Caine and David TweedieBritish film legend Michael Caine (main photo) is rumoured to have been cast as International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) chair David Tweedie in a cameo role in an upcoming Paramount Pictures drama about the global financial crisis.

A key plot line is said to centre on the political tension in Europe, where heads of state including Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel reportedly met at the height of the crisis to discuss accounting issues.

French Economic Affairs Minister Christine Lagarde, who was a harsh critic of the IASB during the crisis, will be played by Meryl Streep.

Following her recent role as a highly-strung and dominating fashion guru in The Devil Wears Prada, Streep is said to be perfect for the role. One critic has even commented on the physical similarities of the two women.

The film is being directed by British director Michael Winterbottom, who is renowned for hits including the provocative 9 Songs and 24 Hour Party People.
