Flic en Flac, Mauritius. The Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) held on Monday its annual general meeting (AGM) in Mauritius, as a prologue of the African Congress of Accountants (ACOA15) hosted by the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants.
The AGM saw a reshuffle of its leadership as PAFA members went to the polls to elect a new president, vice-president and board members.
Asmâa Resmouki, a woman from French-speaking Morocco, and Koos Du Toit, from Namibia were elected president and vice-president respectively.
As required by PAFA by-laws, the board should appoint three scrutineers to oversee the election. Those were: IFAC president Olivia Kirtley, Devinder Goyal, chief regional financial management coordinator of the African Development Bank and Patrick Kabuya, senior financial management specialist at the World Bank.
Kirtley highlighted PAFA’s achievements during its short history said: "Don’t underestimate the voice of PAFA".
Kirtley said it is not true that African professionals are under-qualified. She said IFAC is targeting the African region in search of representatives for the international federation’s committees and bodies.
Kirtley exhorted PAFA’s delegates present in the room to identify African leaders and put their names forward, adding: "They have so much to contribute to the development of the profession."
PAFA’s new leadership tenure is for two years. The electoral process was witnessed by The Accountant. The election, held with full transparency, saw constituents divided in five regions (North, Southern, West, East and Central Africa) to shortlist their representatives.
The new board increased its representation of French-speaking countries from two to five member of the total 15.
