The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has published its latest gender pay gap report, along with its first ethnicity pay gap report.

The gender pay gap report showed that the mean pay gap for male and female staff declined to 3.5% while the median pay gap stands at 7.4%. The report was based on hourly rate of pay on the 5 April 2021.

AAT reported that it has an equal split amongst male and female employees, with an equal number of male and female staff at director level.

On ethnicity pay data, the combined report for 2020 an 2021 showed a slight increase in the mean and median pay gaps, rising from 23.2% and 21.8% in 2020 to 24.9% and 23.9% in 2021 respectively. There was a slight drop in the number of people from ethnic minority backgrounds in the top quartile of role, falling from 19% in 2020 to 15% in 2021.

AAT chief HR officer Olivia Hall said: “AAT is strongly committed to equality and diversity and aspires to be a workplace where all colleagues feel included and enabled to reach their full potential. We have been a leader in the financial sector on gender equality for several years, including publishing our gender pay gap data, which has led to an increased focus on strengthening diversity within our organisation. The new figures released today show that this work is having an impact and we will continue to push for further positive change. We’re also pleased to be publishing our first ever report on ethnicity pay data, which sets out a benchmark and gives us a goal to work towards in the future to address our ethnicity pay gap.

“However, we still have a lot to do – now is not the time to rest on our laurels. Instead, we will back up this data with action, including signing up to the Race at Work Charter, setting up an Executive Sponsor for race, and undertaking further analysis to identify how we can best support the career progression of all our staff. We are also continuing our programme of annual benchmarking through the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion and providing unconscious bias training throughout the organisation.”
