UK FRC appoints members board

The UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has appointed John Stewart and Brian Bender to its board, effective 1 March 2014.

Stewart will also join the UK regulator's Codes and Standards Committee. He is chairman of Legal & General Group, a financial services company listed on the FTSE 100.

Bender is the chairman of the London Metal Exchange. Previously he held senior roles in the UK government, such as head of the European Secretariat at the Cabinet Office.

Both maintain their respective chairmanships.

FRC exiting chairman Baroness Hogg said the new members will bring valuable insights to the board, as they have "a wide knowledge of international capital markets and their regulation".

Baroness Hogg announced last year her decision to step down as chairman of the FRC at the end of 2013, an announcement on her replacement it's expected to be made soon.
