IFAC appoints chief executive

Fayezul Choudhury has been appointed chief executive of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). He will succeed Ian Ball, beginning February 2013.

Previously, Choudhury has covered different roles within the World Bank, from corporate finance and risk management vice president to spokesperson on global accounting and auditing issues.

He started his career with PwC in London and has served on a number of high level representative boards, including the Public Interest Oversight Board. He also chaired the Global Steering Committee of the International Forum for Accountancy Development and was a member of the Standards Advisory Council of the International Accounting Standards Board.

“I firmly believe that accountancy is one of the core professions that anchor the functioning of modern societies and, as such, the role of IFAC is critically important,” Choudhury said.
