US management profession elects chairman

Minneapolis, US. Joseph Vincent has been elected chairman of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) for the next year, effective 1 July.

Bill Knese, who will be chair emeritus in the same period, passed the baton to Vincent at the annual conference of the US management accountants profession held in Minneapolis this week.

IMA chair and chair emeritus are one-year long voluntary positions which lead the institute's board of directors.

Both Knese and Vincent are senior chief financial officers with more than 30 years of experience in management accounting.

"Our Certified Management Accountant (CMA) qualification is one of our most important assets, especially in an environment of high competition," Vincent said speaking at the conference.

The US institute reached more than 72,000 members in the year to 30 June, with 14,000 new CMA candidates registered in the same period of which 70% were from outside the US, according to IMA chief executive Jeff Thomson.

"That's a balance sheet that you, management accountants, can be very proud of," Thomson said addressing the public at the conference.

He added IMA is determined to achieve 100,000 members in five year's time, coinciding with the institute's 100th anniversary.
