ACCA expands to Myanmar

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has opened an office in Myanmar, where it has more than 2,500 students, and appointed Kyaw Lwin Oo as head of ACCA Myanmar.

Lwin joined from a university called Temasek International College, where he was deputy director. "We have more than 2,500 students in the country, so we are working closely with them to ensure they become complete finance professionals, who are ready for the world of work," Lwin said

The ACCA had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the country's national accounting body, the Myanmar Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Republic of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

"As interest in the country grows, there is a growing need for qualified business and finance leaders who are well-versed in finance, management, strategy, corporate governance, and ethics," the global professional body said in a statement.

Despite strong local institutes across the Southeast Asia region and markets such as Malaysia on the path to maturity, Myanmar is attracting the attention of the global accounting profession, according to The Accountant's World Survey.
