ACCA elects new presidential trio

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has held its annual general meeting during which it elected Alexandra Chin as president, Brian McEnery as deputy president and Leo Lee as vice president.

Chin is the first Malaysian and the fourth women to be elected to the role. She has been in public practice since 1981 and qualified as an ACCA member in 1986. Chin has been part of the institute's council since 2005.

Beside working in her own firm in Malaysia eastern province of Sabah, Chin is a board member of the Sabah Tourism Board. She was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2009 and is also a member of the Commonwealth Magistrates' and Judges Association.

McEnery is a partner at BDO Ireland. McEnery first joined BDO in 1995 and he was made partner in 2002. In 2003 he was a founding partner of a Crowe Horwath office in Ireland which merged with BDO in 2012. McEnery graduated with ACCA in 1993 and became a member in 1998 and a fellow in 2003.

Lee is a former director of Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). He first joined the SFC in 1995 and subsequently held various positions within the commission. In his last role as director of finance and administration he was responsible for the accounting, treasury and administration functions of the SFC. Lee is currently a director of Benington Capital Limited, an asset management company which manages a Greater China-focused equity fund for professional investors.

He is also an independent non-executive director of three Hong Kong listed companies, one of which was also listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. He has served as a committee member of ACCA Hong Kong since 1997 and was its President between 2003 and 2004.
